Affirmative Affirmation

So this exists…

This story went out a fair number of times before I submitted it to the contest. It got very favorable rejections, and every reader who put eyes on it thought it was worthy.

I sent it in almost as an afterthought. I’d submitted several other pieces in years past, but never received notice of receipt. It was part of a flurry of stories I sent out in late Summer, when I was more or less at a creative low point.

Soon after, I was contacted regarding some short term consulting work, and an outline/pitch I’d submitted earlier in the year got fast tracked for publication.

I’d honestly forgotten it was out for review, until I got the news of Honorable Mention. It took me almost an hour to figure out which of my short pieces it was, and you could have knocked me over with a feather when I did.

So I sent them something else that same night. And then I sold Homefont, and have been busy ever since.

I’m not saying the contest has magical powers, nor am I inferring causation from ideation. But if you have a story you care about, and don’t mind a few months of silence, consider submitting it to the Writers of the Future contest.

After all, you never know…
